History of UNC Basketball
UNC
basketball was established in 1910, and the team played its first game in
January. The team was coached by Charles Doak, who led it to a 5-4 record in
its first season.
The program
experienced success in its early years, winning Southern Conference
championships in 1922 and 1924. However, it was only with the arrival of
legendary coach Dean Smith that UNC basketball became a national powerhouse.
